Today’s plant of the week is Papyrus, also known as Paper reed or Nile grass. Our modern English word paper comes directly from the word Papyrus, which ancient Egyptians used to write on. They also used parts of the plant to make boats, rope, sandals, and mats.

Papyrus loves tropical climates and needs constantly wet, boggy soil or standing water up to 6 inches deep. The most of important part of Papyrus care is so keep the roots moist and the soil rich in nutrients.
