Role Overview
The Operations Manager is responsible for executing daily operations across all service divisions, ensuring jobs are completed on time, at target margins and to company standards.
This role owns department culture, department KPIs, people performance, production output, and operational accountability.
You are not here to “help” or “run a crew”. You are here to protect our culture, run the operation and produce results.
Divisions You Will Oversee
- Residential Lawn & Landscape Maintenance
- Commercial Full Maintenance
- Irrigation & Drainage Service
- Lawn Fertilization & Weed Control
- Pest Control
- Christmas Light Service
Daily / Weekly / Monthly Expectations
Daily
- Morning production check (crews, routes, issues)
- Monitor job progress throughout the day
- Solve field problems in real time
- End-of-day review (what got done vs. what didn’t)
Weekly
- Review data with Division Managers in a 1 on 1
- Adjust schedules and manpower based on demand
- Identify inefficiencies and fix them
- Report numbers and issues to leadership
Monthly
- Evaluate team performance (who stays, who improves, who goes)
- Review division profitability
- Improve systems, processes, and workflows
Requirements
- 5+ years managing field operations (landscape or similar service industry preferred)
- Proven ability to manage multiple crews and service lines
- Strong leadership and accountability mindset
- Experience with scheduling, routing, and production tracking
- Ability to read and act on operational data
Compensation
- Base salary + performance incentives tied to:
- Profitability
- Production efficiency
- Customer retention / quality metrics
What You Own (Non-Negotiable)
1. Daily Execution
- Data and KPI interpretation
- All crews are staffed, dispatched and productive
- Jobs completed on schedule
- Quality meets company standards (no callbacks)
- Equipment and trucks are operational and organized
2. Team Accountability
- Direct oversight of:
- Division Managers (field)
- Office staff (scheduling/material purchasing)
- Set daily expectations and enforce them
- Address underperformance immediately (not later)
3. Production & Efficiency
- Hit labor budgets and production targets
- Reduce wasted time, rework, and inefficiencies
- Optimize routing, scheduling, and crew output
4. Customer Experience
- Ensure jobs are completed right the first time
- Resolve escalated customer issues quickly
- Maintain strong communication between office and field
5. Data & Reporting
- Track and report:
- Revenue vs. target
- Labor vs. budget
- Job completion rates
- Callbacks / quality issues
- Provide weekly reporting to leadership with clear insights and actions
What Success Looks Like
- Crews run on time with minimal oversight
- Strong oversight on COGS
- Customer complaints decrease
- Revenue is predictable and controlled
- The operation does not rely on the owner to function
This Role Is NOT For
- Someone who avoids hard conversations
- Someone who needs structure instead of creating it
- Someone who is uncomfortable holding people accountable
- Someone who prefers “doing the work” over managing the team
