Our plant of the week is The Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia reginae). Its vibrant blooms earned their name because they resemble colorful birds in flight!
Did you know? When a sunbird lands on the flower’s sturdy, boat-shaped bloom, its weight opens the flower and dusts the bird’s feet with sticky pollen, helping with pollination. It’s also the official flower of Los Angeles, California, where most of North America’s Bird of Paradise flowers are grown.
