It’s August and our plant of the week today is the Drift Rose! We’re trimming Drift and Knockout Roses right now to encourage new blooms in the fall.
Drift Roses were originally bred by the Meilland International French rose-breeding family. This variety of rose grows low and wide compared to other types, and can be used as a ground cover plant. Drift Roses are also repeat-bloomers that bloom every 5 to 6 weeks from spring to frost.
Did you know? Drift roses were chosen as Louisiana Super Plants in 2013 and have been continuously gaining traction ever since. Some popular cultivars for our region include ‘Apricot’, ‘Blushing’, ‘Coral’, and ‘Popcorn’ Drift Rose. If you’re looking for a low to the ground rose that does great in Louisiana, Drift Roses are a great choice!
