If you’ve ever wondered why some areas of your lawn stay green while others turn brown, your sprinkler coverage could be the reason.

Our Irrigation Manager, David, explains the difference between head-to-head and tip-to-tip sprinkler coverage and why proper spacing is essential for a healthy lawn.

Tip-to-tip coverage: Sprinkler heads are installed farther apart, so the water stream from one head ends where the next begins. While this may seem efficient, it often leaves dry spots or “hotspots” between sprinkler heads, resulting in uneven watering.

Head-to-head coverage: Sprinkler heads are spaced so the spray from each head reaches the base of the next sprinkler. This overlapping coverage ensures your lawn receives even irrigation across the entire landscape, helping eliminate dry areas and promoting healthier turf.

For most residential and commercial irrigation systems, head-to-head coverage provides the best performance, reducing hotspots, improving water distribution, and keeping your landscape healthier while using water more efficiently.
