Now that the soil outside is warming up, we want to talk about the core aeration and topdressing process.
First, core aeration uses a machine to remove 2-3 inch plugs or “cores” of soil and thatch from the lawn. Then, we use another machine to topdress, adding a layer of compost, soil, and sand on top.
The topdressing sinks down into the holes and completely changes the soil matrix of your lawn. This improves soil structure, texture and nutrient content, which can promote stronger and deeper root growth. It helps alleviate soil compaction, improving water and air movement in the soil. The sand in the top dressing can also help the soil drain better, which helps avoid oversaturation. Lastly, this process will help reduce thatch buildup, improving the appearance of your yard!
The topdressing will be visible for a while until it absorbs into the lawn. Great lawns take work and patience, but the final result is worth it. Let us know if you have any questions!
