Pine straw is a great alternative to using mulch in your landscape. It tends to not wash away in your beds as easily once it has settled. It also offers a good weed barrier and helps insulate the beds during the winter. If you have several pine trees in your yard, then it would make sense to use pine straw. Just like with mulch, you need to change it out and refresh it a couple of times a year to keep it looking good.
