Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, which means it’s a good time to talk about roses, specifically rose trimming. For roses such as Knockout or Drift Roses, late January or February is the best time to prune, before their spring bloom cycle. A lighter trim can be done in August.
-Remove any stems that are dead, damaged, or diseased
-Remove canes that are growing towards the center of the shrub
-Cut back healthy canes to around 1/2 of the plant’s size
Make sure to wear gloves for your safety. We recommend using clean tools and removing any debris when you’re done to reduce diseases like rose rosette.
