Bradley is here to tell us about our plant of the week, ‘Amethyst Falls’ wisteria aka Wisteria frutescens.

This climbing vine is native to Louisiana and is a relatively slow grower unlike invasive Asian wisteria. It can climb 18-20 feet high and can spread 10-15 feet, which is why some consider it a dwarf wisteria. ‘Amethyst Falls’ blooms in late spring, with a second smaller bloom in summer. Its fragrant, purple flowers attract butterflies, hummingbirds, songbirds, and serve as a host plant for the Marine blue butterfly. To grow properly, it needs a trellis or wall for climbing.
