Happy Monday! Our plant of the week was actually spotted by David while he was out. This is a Florida Azalea (Rhododendron austrinum), a native shrub known for fragrant, vibrant flowers. During spring, they bloom in clusters of trumpet-shaped yellow, gold, or orange flowers.
This Azalea is actually native to our area, which means it’s great for native pollinators like bees and hummingbirds! Being native also makes it hardy and low maintenance.
Did you know? The Florida Azalea Festival is a two-day event held annually in Palatka, Florida, on the first weekend of March to celebrate the native azalea blooms. Like our weekly fun facts, follow us for more!
